Time Traveler Dinner a Great Success

The winners of the Time Travelers Evening at Glendower Historic Mansion gathered at the Warren County Historical Society on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 for their transportation back to the Jazz Age.

Three antique cars from the late 1920's with their owners/drivers all in costumed volunteered to take the winners on a ride around Floraville before dropping them off at Glendower. The ride went up Broadway to Maple, across Maple to East, down East to Orchard, down Orchard to West, down West to Cincinnati Ave and up Cincinnati Ave to Glendower's front door.  Mark Howard, one of the Glendower Historic Characters played the Butler and graciously ushered the guests into the house where John Zimkus acting as a house guest of Ladora Owens, hosted the winners to a glass of sparkling white grape juice (prohibition in full force at this time) and appetizers.
Ladora Owens was the last private owner of Glendower. She bought the house from Durbin Ward's widow in 1904. Ladora was a grand dame of Lebanon and from accounts in the Western Star newspaper hosted fabulous parties at Glendower - until the crash of 1929 when she lost all her money!

John explained that "Dora" and her husband had been called away to family in New Jersey and he had offered to host in their place.  He was happy to give the guests a tour of the house before they sat down to dinner in Glendower's beautiful dining room.

Here's a picture of the winners of the Time Travelers Dinner at Glendower Historic Mansion.  Marilyn Carter of Carter Catering prepared a delicious meal appropriate to the Jazz Age (1920's).  After enjoying sparkling grape juice and cheddar pecan The meal began with a Iceberg wedge salad with Thousand Island dressing . The main course consisted of  roast pork tenderloin with Jezebel Sauce, Potatoes Anglaise, tender green beans, rolls, butter and sparkling red grape juice. For dessert the guests enjoyed Chocolate Mousse with fresh whipped cream and fresh brewed coffee.

After the dinner, Mr. Zimkus lead the guests through the house to finish their tour while The Haunted One communed with the spirits of the house in preparation for the seance.
Ladora did not deign to appear, but everyone enjoyed the experience none the less.

John Zimkus acted as host in "Dora's" stead.
